'Let your light shine' (Matthew 5:16)

Eco Council

At Thurmham Glasson Church of England Primary School, we care deeply about the environment of our school and the future of our planet. Our Eco committee are empowered to drive change in our school to improve the environmental awareness of other pupils, staff and the community. We are conscious of improving the school environment in a way that raises pupil’s skills, engages the community and links to the curriculum.

The Eco committee provides a unique opportunity that encourages pupils to lead change within the school and have a positive impact on their community. The committee encourages pupils of all ages and abilities to work together to develop their knowledge and environmental awareness. The committee meets fortnightly and discusses topics ranging from litter picking to gardening. We then get outside and act on those discussions!

We find that members of the Eco Committee have a range of positive impacts on pupils, including increased confidence, development of leadership skills, improved pupil well-being and behavior and greater motivation at school. As well as this, the school benefits from reducing our environmental footprint. Our objectives include consuming less water and energy, producing less waste and taking steps towards self sustainability.
