Progression in Computing
Here at Thurnham Glasson C of E Primary School, our aim is to encourage and support our children to become safe and effective digital citizens, with the skills, knowledge and understanding to embrace our ever changing technological world.
We are lucky to have access to a range of equipment to support and extend our learning, including a chrome books, iPads, Nintendo Dsi's, interactive whiteboards, Bee-Bots, Easi-speak microphones, talking postcards and digital microscopes to name just a few.

The children follow the computing curriculum which is made up of 3 components:
Computer Science – is how computers and computer systems work, and how they are designed and programmed. Across both key stages the children are presented with opportunities to learn about the importance of clear and sequential instructions (algorithms) and what to do when things don’t work (de-bugging). Pupils studying computing gain insight into computational systems of all kinds, whether or not they include computers and it is for this reason that some of our computing lessons don’t actually include any computers at all!
Information technology – This involves using technology correctly and purposefully, including using child friendly search engines to find and present information. This element of computing will sometimes be linked to children’s topic work, where they will be given opportunities to effectively search for information, assess its credibility and use a range of ways to present information gathered.
Digital literacy – This is how the children gain an awareness and understanding of the fundamental importance of e-safety, keeping personal information private and identifying where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.
