Learning to read comprises the development of different skills…..recognising and using phonics to decode words, using the text for context, prediction of what might happen, developing inference from the text read.

Children exhibit & develop these skills at different ages; sometimes with overlap, sometimes needing extra help. Phonics sessions and Guided reading sessions are where our children are taught and learn these skills.

Home reading practises and consolidates these skills to embed them further.
